Onychomycosis or Fungal Nail is a fungal infection (mycosis) of the nail (onycho) that can affect both toenails and fingernails. The disease is mainly caused by dermatophytes such as Trichophyton Rubrum and Trichophyton Mentagrophytes, which together account for more than 93% of all infectious organisms involved in onychomycosis. These organisms feed on keratin, one of the nail components.
