Onychomycosis or Fungal Nail is a fungal infection (mycosis) of the nail (onycho) that can affect both toenails and fingernails. The disease is mainly caused by dermatophytes such as Trichophyton Rubrum and Trichophyton Mentagrophytes, which together account for more than 93% of all infectious organisms involved in onychomycosis. These organisms feed on keratin, one of the nail components.

It is a very common foot complaint thought to affect up to 25% of the adult population at any one time.

This infection is an unsightly condition causing embarrassment for sufferers. It is a condition that does not resolve itself treatment is necessary.
